Bessie May yarns

The name comes from, and is in honour of, Bessie May, the great grandmother of the company’s founder.Bessie May lived a life of hardship, entering the workhouse in Weymouth, Dorset, England in the 19th Century, where both her children were born. She was deaf and dumb, and although she could not speak she could always get herself understood. Bessie May was an exceptional seamstress, embroiderer and knitter. The only thing that remains that was hers is her precious silver thimble

Bessie May was established in 2011, with the Bessie May Studio coincidentally being just two miles from where Bessie May lived her final years, on a farm with her son’s family in West Sussex, England.
